Best of Durham - Pt. 11
Located in the Triangle area of North Carolina, Durham is a cultural and educational center. It is home to Duke University, one of the country's top colleges. The Nasher Museum of Art is also located in Durham. The city has an active local music scene. Its music styles range from bluegrass to punk. A fantastic read.
Durham is home to many civil rights activists, including Pauli Murray. She spent much of her childhood in Durham, and went on to be a national civil rights advocate. She has been featured in several murals around the city.
The Duke University campus features neo-Gothic Duke Chapel, as well as the Nasher Museum of Art. Several smaller visual arts galleries are also located in Durham.
Durham is home to numerous breweries. They offer classic and experimental brews. Some breweries even offer flights! The city is also home to many bottle shops. If you're looking for a good meal, Durham has plenty of great restaurants. Some of the best restaurants are located in the Brightleaf area.
If you are interested in learning more about the history of Durham, you should check out the Museum of Durham History. The museum features artifacts from the city's early years.
You can also check out the Carolina Theatre, which hosts film festivals and operas. Downtown Durham is home to several historic brick factory buildings that now house trendy restaurants and theaters. Several craft cocktail lounges are located in the few blocks that make up downtown.
You can also check out the American Underground section of the American Tobacco Campus in Durham. This section of the campus will be expanded, and will feature 158,000 square feet of office space and residential or hotel space. The campus also features successful small software firms, and will be a key site for the Google Glass Road show in October 2013. This is one of our staff favorities.
In addition to the Durham Association for Downtown Arts, which was incorporated in 2000, there are several other nonprofit arts organizations in Durham. Those organizations include the Durham Arts Council, the Durham County Arts Council, and the Museum of Durham History. These organizations are all very involved in the community.
The North Carolina School for Science and Mathematics, operated by the University of North Carolina, is located in central Durham. This school accepts rising juniors from throughout North Carolina. The school has a number of science departments, and the school's astronomy department offers telescopes that can be borrowed by the public.
Durham is also home to a number of health care and pharmaceutical companies. Many of these companies continue to grow in importance in the community. Duke University also has a radio station, WXDU, that is very active in the community. In fact, the station is considered one of the best college radio stations in the country.
Durham is a good place to live for anyone looking for a cool city with a rich history. It has a warm climate and receives abundant precipitation. During the summer, the weather is humid and hot. However, the winters are cool and mild.
