How can We Help?

Our approach to treating depression combines proven therapeutic methods with personalized care to help you regain control over your life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a highly effective approach to addressing depression. This evidence-based therapy helps you identify negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more realistic perspectives.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT encourages clients to accept difficult emotions while committing to actions that align with their personal values. This approach fosters resilience and emotional flexibility.

Mindfulness Practices

Incorporating mindfulness techniques can help you stay present, manage overwhelming emotions, and reduce the intensity of depressive episodes.

Support for Underlying Causes

Depression often stems from or coexists with other challenges like anxiety, trauma, or life transitions. Our therapists work with you to address these root causes for long-term healing.

Questions About Depression Therapy

How do I know if I need therapy for depression?
It can be hard to tell the difference between a rough patch and something that needs professional support. A few signs that therapy might help: you've been feeling low for more than a couple of weeks, things you used to enjoy don't interest you anymore, or you're having trouble functioning at work or home.

If you're not sure, we put together a guide to help you decide: Is It Time to Get Help for Your Depression? 5 Questions to Ask Yourself →

Why is it so hard to get out of bed when I'm depressed?
This is one of the most common things we hear. Depression affects your energy, motivation, and even your body's sleep-wake cycle. It's not laziness—it's a real symptom of what's happening in your brain.

The good news is that therapy can help you understand why this happens and build strategies to make mornings easier. We wrote more about this here: Morning Struggles: Why Depression Makes It Hard to Get Out of Bed →

Is seasonal depression real? Can therapy help with it?
Yes, it's real. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that typically shows up in fall and winter when there's less daylight. Symptoms include low energy, oversleeping, weight changes, and feeling down for weeks at a time.

Therapy can help—especially when combined with other strategies like light exposure and routine changes. Learn more: How to Keep the Winter Blues Away: Seasonal Affective Disorder →

How long does depression therapy take?
It depends on your situation. Some people feel better after 8–12 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term support, especially if depression has been part of their life for years. We'll check in regularly to make sure therapy is working for you.

What happens in a depression therapy session?
In the beginning, we'll talk about what's been going on—how long you've felt this way, what makes it better or worse, and what you want to change. From there, sessions focus on understanding your patterns, building coping skills, and addressing the thoughts and experiences that keep you stuck.

Do you prescribe medication for depression?
No. We provide therapy, not medication. But we know that medication can be helpful for some people, and we regularly refer clients to psychiatrists when it makes sense. Many people do well with therapy alone. Others benefit from therapy and medication together.

Can I do depression therapy via telehealth?
Yes. All of our therapists offer telehealth appointments via secure video. For many people dealing with depression—especially when getting out of bed or leaving the house feels hard—telehealth makes therapy more accessible.

What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't work?
That happens. Sometimes the fit wasn't right, or the approach didn't match what you needed. Depression responds to different types of therapy, and finding the right therapist matters. We'll work with you to figure out what's been missing and try a different approach.
