Raising a family in the Triangle is busy.
School, sports, work, homework—everyone running in different directions.
And when stress builds up, it shows up at home. Kids act out. Teens shut down. Parents lose patience.
If your family feels disconnected or stuck in the same fights, you're not alone.
Family counseling Morrisville families trust starts here at Morrisville Counseling and Consulting.
We offer child therapy for ages 6–12, teen counseling for ages 13–18, and parenting counseling for moms and dads who need support.

Family Counseling Services
Whether your child is 6 or 16—or you're the one who needs support—we help families across the Triangle work through whatever they're facing.
Child therapy gives kids a safe space to work through big emotions using play, art, and age-appropriate techniques—so they can feel calm and confident again
Teen counseling gives adolescents a space to open up with someone who gets it, helping them manage anxiety, stress, and the pressures of growing up.
Parenting support gives you practical strategies, expert guidance, and the confidence to handle the tough moments—without losing yourself in the process.

How Family Counseling Works
You might be wondering what family counseling actually looks like. Here's how it works at our practice:
Free Consultation Call:
We start with a phone call to learn about your family's situation. We'll ask what's going on, who needs support, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. Then we'll match you with the right therapist for your family's needs.
First Session:
Your therapist will spend time getting to know your family. For child therapy, this might include a parent-only session first so we can get the full picture before meeting your child. For teen counseling, we usually meet with the teen and parents together briefly, then give the teen their own time.
Ongoing Sessions:
Most families come weekly, especially at the start. Sessions are 50-60 minutes long. We'll work on specific goals and teach skills your family can use at home.
Parent Involvement:
Even when your child or teen is the one in therapy, parents play a big role. We'll check in regularly, share what's working, and give you tools to support progress between sessions.

Child Therapy (Ages 6–12)
Helping Kids Express Big Feelings
Kids don't always have words for what's wrong. They show you instead. Especially with grief.
Our child therapy gives kids a safe space to work through big emotions using play, art, and storytelling.
Signs your child might need support:
-
Tantrums or meltdowns that seem too big for the situation
-
Crying at school drop-off or refusing to go
-
Sudden anger, clinginess, or withdrawal
-
Trouble making friends or constant conflict with siblings
-
Worrying about everything or trouble sleeping
What changes with therapy:
-
Your child learns to name and manage emotions
-
Behavioral issues at home and school improve
-
Anxiety calms down
-
You get tools to support them between sessions
We work closely with parents. You're not just dropping your kid off—you're part of the process.
Families in Morrisville, Cary, Durham, and Raleigh see us weekly at our Slater Road office or through telehealth.

Teen Counseling (Ages 13–18)
Connecting with Your Adolescent
Teenagers are complicated.
One day they want your advice. The next day they won't look at you.
They used to tell you everything—now you feel like a stranger in your own home.
Teen counseling gives adolescents a space to talk with someone who isn't their parent.
That distance helps.
Teens often open up to a therapist in ways they can't with mom or dad.
What teens are dealing with today:
-
Social media pressure and constant comparison
-
Academic stress and college anxiety
-
Friendship drama and shifting social circles
-
Identity questions about who they're becoming
-
First relationships and heartbreak
Warning signs that need attention:
-
Constant anxiety or panic attacks
-
Depression, low energy, or loss of interest in everything
-
Self-harm or thoughts of suicide
-
Isolation from family and friends
If that's your teenager, please reach out. These issues are treatable, and early help matters.
Our therapists connect with teens in a way that feels real—not like another adult lecture.

Parenting Counseling
Guidance When You Need It Most
No one gives you a manual for parenting.
You do your best, but sometimes your best doesn't seem to work anymore.
The strategies that worked when they were little fall flat now.
You're exhausted from trying.
Parenting counseling gives you space to step back and get support.
Common struggles we help with:
-
Tantrums, defiance, lying, or aggression you can't figure out
-
Co-parents who aren't on the same page
-
Kids playing parents against each other
-
Parenting through divorce or blending families
-
Supporting a child with anxiety, ADHD, or other challenges
What parents gain:
-
New approaches that actually work
-
A united front with your co-parent
-
Confidence in your parenting decisions
-
Less guilt, less yelling, more connection
Sessions can include one parent, both parents, or the whole family. Asking for help isn't failure—it's caring enough to do better.

Common Questions from
Triangle Families
At what age can kids start therapy?
We work with children as young as 6. For younger children, we often do more parent coaching alongside play-based therapy.
Will you tell me what my teen says in session?
We keep teen sessions confidential to build trust, but we will always tell you if there's a safety concern. We also share general themes and progress. Learn more about boundaries in teen and child therapy.
What if my child doesn't want to go to therapy?
This is common, especially with teens. Our therapists are skilled at building rapport with reluctant kids. Most come around once they realize therapy isn't what they expected.
Can the whole family come to sessions?
Yes. Some sessions might include everyone, while others focus on one person. We tailor the approach to what your family needs.
Do you work with divorced or blended families?
Absolutely. Many of our clients are navigating co-parenting, custody transitions, or blending families. We help everyone adjust.
